This page describes some basic Openbox customizations

Prerequisites

Openbox must be installed before trying the following customizations. I'm using Ubuntu but I guess this may work on any GNU/Linux system.

Installation

debian.sh is a bash script that install Openbox and a lot of useful softwares. It is designed to work on Debian. Initially I used Ubuntu but I prefer the stability of Debian (especially since Ubuntu 11.04).

Warning

debian.sh installs and removes a lot of packages. You'll have to modify it for your own needs before updating your system. For instance, it removes Evolution and replaces OpenOffice by LibreOffice.

Main Openbox configuration

obconfig is a Lua script that generates the whole Openbox configuration.

obconfig --edit will edit ~/.obconfig. This file describes the menu, the theme, the autostart script, the mouse and keyboard shortcuts...

I'm a bit lazzy to describe the syntax of .obconfig but it's quite simple (it's a lua script)... It shall define some variables:

obmenu:Openbox menu
autostart:Openbox autostart script
obtheme:Openbox theme
obkeyboard:keyboard shortcuts
obmouse:mouse shortcuts
obapplications:specific applications
obconfig:Main Openbox configuration
